Earlier this year, I went on Kimmel’s show to talk about Trump’s autocratic playbook. Like Stephen Colbert, Kimmel has used his platform to speak truth to power. Even when there are guest hosts, Jimmy Kimmel Live! is a platform for everyday people to hear from not just celebrities, but folks like me who are fighting for our democracy.
Now, Kimmel has been kicked off the air, just like Colbert.
This is a direct attack on our right to free speech – the backbone of our ability to fight back against autocracy.
This is an unprecedented attempt to silence not only Democrats but also the unbiased news organizations that accurately report Trump’s autocratic actions.
If Trump can pressure massive media companies to silence opposing views, then that means our right to free speech itself is in grave danger.
