Keeping the Federal Government Open

Image

Today, House Republicans passed a continuing resolution as the September 30 government funding deadline approaches.

We have a responsibility to fund the federal government, and this clean continuing resolution does just that while allowing us to finish negotiating the appropriations bills that rein in federal spending.

Senate Democrats are threatening to shut down the government, furlough federal employees, stop essential services, and prevent servicemembers from being paid rather than pass a short-term extension of current fiscal year funding. Not one American benefits from a federal government shutdown; they must act to keep the government open.

Hanford Waste Treatment Plant on Schedule

Image

On Wednesday, U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary James Danly signed the Critical Decision 4 (CD-4), which is the final approval needed to start the operations of the Waste Treatment Plant at Hanford and begin vitrification of low-activity waste on October 15.

Despite unsubstantiated rumors and speculation, this approval is confirmation of what Secretary Chris Wright told me multiple times over the past week, that there will be no delays to the start of the Waste Treatment Plant.

I have consistently championed funding for the Waste Treatment Plant, and I look forward to seeing Hanford achieve this milestone and enter its next chapter in the cleanup mission.

Honoring Gold Star Families

Image

On Thursday, I led 65 of my colleagues in introducing a bipartisan resolution in the House of Representatives designating the week of September 21-27, 2025, as Gold Star Families Remembrance Week.

Gold Star Families are living reminders of the ultimate sacrifice made by the men and women of our armed forces to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

To honor these families who lost loved ones during active duty, we dedicate Gold Star Family Remembrance Week as a token of our appreciation. My colleagues and I send our gratitude to the thousands of families across the country who tell the stories, share the memories, and honor the bravery of those who lost their lives in service to our great Nation.

On Wednesday, I joined tribal representatives from across the country to discuss my bipartisan, bicameral legislation, the Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act, addressing hiring and retention challenges for tribal law enforcement agencies in Central Washington and across the country.

As tribal law enforcement works to combat issues like fentanyl and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis, we must ensure they are able to maintain a strong, reliable force for the safety tribal communities in the United States.

House Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

Image

This week, the House passed a bipartisan resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk.

Peaceful debate drives our political system, and Charlie Kirk embodied that sentiment, encouraging young people to become involved in our political process. This resolution sends a clear message that politically motivated violence has no place in our society.

The Kirk family remains in our thoughts and prayers as they continue to mourn the loss of Charlie.
