John,
My team and I have been working day and night for the last few months to stop what feels like constant attempts to dismantle and undermine our democracy.
They passed an egregious racial gerrymander in Texas and Missouri. Fights in Indiana and Ohio are on deck. It’s been a hectic few months to say the least. So I want to take a step back — and talk about why they’re so desperate to rewrite the rules of the next election.
The Republicans are scared. Donald Trump is scared. They’re worried that if the election is fair, they’re going to lose the House and their anti-democracy agenda will finally be put in check.
We fight for fairness for a reason. For us, fairness is an invaluable tool. If things are fair, Democrats win. We don’t need special treatment or a leg up. We win because we have better candidates, better policies, and better ideas.
If you’re with the NDR PAC in our fight for fairness, we need your support. This is an existential moment for our democracy, and what we do today will resonate for years to come. Rush your donation today. [[link removed]]
Make no mistake: Being committed to fairness does not mean being blind to reality.
This movement has a state-by-state strategy that deploys different tactics to combat unfairness in whatever form it takes. That allows our side to challenge unfair and illegal maps in the courts. We organize grassroots supporters to hold state lawmakers accountable. In California, we’re supporting responsible, temporary measures to respond to craven Republican power grabs. And throughout the country, we have kept our eyes on a 10-year plan to ensure we’re winning the most critical state-level elections for the future of our democracy.
So even as we’re ready to push back against the new egregious gerrymanders coming down the pike, we’re also laser-focused on our long-term strategy to secure fairness.
Because we know one thing for certain — Republicans are not going to suddenly give up and start playing fair. Texas Governor Greg Abbott swore the redistricting fight “could last years.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is demanding a redo of the 2020 Census to “award Florida what we’re entitled to.”
They’re not going to let up — so we’ve got to be ready for whatever it is they try to throw at us. Make a donation so we can respond strategically to preserve our democracy: [[link removed]]
John, you’re a critical part of this effort — thank you for never giving up on our movement.
Sincerely,
Eric H. Holder, Jr.
82nd Attorney General of the United States
