This week, I attended several important hearings at the House Financial Services Committee, and am I happy to report updates on ongoing legislation.
The Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, where I serve, held a critical hearing on reauthorizing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA).
Key Miami institutions like the University of Miami depend on TRIA’s safety net to guarantee affordable, reliable coverage in case of natural disasters or terrorism. Without it, coverage would be unaffordable and sometimes even impossible.
Additionally, as part of my work on the Committee, I was pleased to support the Financial Exploitation Prevention Act (H.R. 2478) this week. Scammers are getting smarter, and too many of our seniors have been targeted and tricked into losing their hard-earned savings. This bill is a simple, commonsense step to help stop that. It lets investment companies put a quick pause on suspicious withdrawals if they think fraud is happening—giving families time to step in before the money is gone.
I’m so proud to serve on the Financial Services Committee, one of the most powerful Committees in Congress, where we constantly tackle crucial issues across banking, housing, insurance, and securities!
