Dear Friend,

Last week, I heard from many of you that you are concerned about rising healthcare costs. My office has also been receiving hundreds of calls expressing concerns about the rising cost of living, and other policies that are hurting Texans and our country.

Thank you for joining me in this fight, I am honored to stand with you. Please continue to share your story and speak up.

As always, if I can be helpful, please call my San Antonio office at (210) 348-8216 or my office in Washington at (202) 225-3236.

Citizenship Day Naturalization Ceremony

Congratulations to all the San Antonians who recently took an oath to become naturalized U.S. citizens! More than 23 countries were represented at the ceremony. I am glad to see hardworking folks become U.S. citizens and receive their right to vote to participate in our democracy.

In Congress

The Hernández Family

Six months ago, the Trump Administration deported a young child with her family, despite her cancer diagnosis and need for treatment in the United States.

This past Thursday, I had the honor of joining the Texas Civil Rights Project in speaking up for Sara and her family who remain in Mexico.

No one should ever have to choose between lifesaving treatment for their U.S. citizen children or deportation.

I am urging the Trump Administration to grant this family humanitarian parole and save this little girl's life.

House Foreign Affairs Committee

After a two-day markup, I'm glad that my legislation was included in the bill to fund the State Department. These provisions will help improve the effectiveness of foreign assistance, strengthen international relations, and keep America safe.

I also spoke before the committee in support of the U.S. using its leverage to stop the slaughter in Gaza. I supported Rep. Jayapal's amendment to withhold funding for Israel when they fail to follow international humanitarian law.

Reduce Healthcare Costs

Image

Last week, many of you responded to my survey, and 86% of you are worried about rising healthcare costs. That is why I voted NO on the Republican funding bill, which does not extend ACA tax credits. San Antonians rely on these tax credits—I am pushing to make these healthcare tax credits permanent.

In the News

San Antonio Current — "San Antonio U.S. Rep. Castro slams Trump over defunding grants for Hispanic serving colleges"

“The Administration’s reckless decision will devastate universities across the country in red and blue states as well as urban and rural areas that serve working-class students and students of color,” Castro and Padilla said.

“Congress passed laws on a bipartisan basis to establish and support funding for our nation’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Minority-Serving Institutions that are economic mobility engines. This action not only jeopardizes the education of the millions of students who attend these institutions, but threatens the future of our workforce.”
