Van Duyne Washington, D.C. – Monday evening I gathered with my colleagues in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol to attend a prayer vigil to honor the life and the legacy of Charlie Kirk. I had a great time catching up with David, Justin, and Rana, residents of Texas-24, during their visit to Washington with the American Academy of Neurology. They are the largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals, dedicated to promoting brain health for all. Tuesday morning, the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee hosted a hearing titled, “Virtue Signaling vs. Vital Services: Where Tax-Exempt Hospitals are Spending Your Tax Dollars.” To watch my remarks, click here or on the photo below. It was great to meet with PNC Regional Presidents from across Texas. We discussed the important role they play in our state, as well as the great work the Trump Administration is doing to eliminate burdensome regulations that have held back our financial sector. I had the opportunity to meet with the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), they serve as the voice for our nation’s third-party logistics providers. We were able to discuss potential solutions for fraud in the supply chain, and other issues they see impacting the logistics industry. The Small Business Committee met to hold a hearing on the role of SBA lending in supporting main street America. As the Co-Chair of the Franchise Caucus,I was able to talk about the great work already being done by this Administration to help franchisees find the financing they need to open or expand a business by brining back the Franchise Directory, which was a vital financing tool discontinued by the Biden Administration. Every day I serve as the voice for you all, the amazing people of Texas-24, I take seriously my responsibility to protect and defend the Constitution. Wednesday, the Ways and Means Committee met for a markup and advanced 9 bills out of committee. These bills are on the way to the House floor and will help protect patients, families, seniors, and taxpayers – further improving the lives of Americans. Glad to join my House colleagues passing four bills that will further keep our nation’s capital safe: the D.C. CRIMES Act, D.C. Juvenile Sentencing Reform Act, D.C. Judicial Nominations Reform Act, and D.C. Policing Protection Act. D.C. should remain safe for all to enjoy! I introduced the Small Business Health Options Awareness Act of 2025, with Rep. Claudia Tenney and Rep. Kevin Hern. This legislation that directs the Small Business Administration to expand outreach and provide information about the availability of Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement arrangements (ICHRAs). Read more below in my work of the week. The New Zealand Ambassador to the U.S., Rosemary Banks, was able to stop by my office this week. She updated me about trade between our two countries, and we discussed ways to strengthen the relationship. Recently, OURA announced they are opening a new manufacturing facility in North Texas, and we are looking forward to the exciting new jobs they bring to the area. I had the opportunity to meet with the CEO when he was visiting Washington and we discussed IP theft. It was great to visit with the Tequila Regulatory Council who's responsible for regulating the tequila industry in Mexico. We talked about the importance of tequila to the economy of Texas, as well as the importance of the recent launch of the public comment period for the USMCA review. Today, I joined my colleagues in passing a resolution to honor the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. We will never let his legacy die. This morning, I voted with with other House Republicans to avoid a government shutdown by passing a clean Continuing Resolution. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I introduced the Small Business Health Options Awareness Act of 2025 to ensure the SBA actively shares information on Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs). This will help small businesses support their employees and make them a more attractive employment option. Texas-24 Hometown Hero Sergeant First Class Angelo Winfield served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for 22 years. As a Hurst resident he spends his time giving back to our North Texas community.
