Greetings!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.

To claim that I’m not in favor of term limits is completely disingenuous and false.

While I support term limits, limiting members of the House to only six years is insufficient and does not allow them the time to serve our country most effectively. It also implies that the House is inherently less than the Senate. I disagree.

In 2023, during a House Judiciary Committee markup, I introduced an amendment to H.J.Res.11, proposing a constitutional amendment limiting Representatives to three terms and Senators to two terms, to raise the term limits for House and Senate members to 12 years each. Sadly, neither the underlying resolution nor my amendment passed the House Judiciary Committee.

I will continue to fight for term limits in Congress. Washington, D.C., should be run by the American people, not bureaucrats, staff members, or lobbyists.

This Week in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls is Selected to Serve on the Select Subcommittee on January 6

I'm honored to be selected to serve on the Select Subcommittee on January 6, 2021. I know firsthand what happened on January 6, and I'm looking forward to permanently setting the record straight and shining the light on what truly happened on January 6, the days leading up to January 6, and the days following.

The American people deserve the truth and transparency about the security failures that occurred that day, and I look forward to providing them with answers and the truth that they rightfully deserve.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions FBI Director Kash Patel at House Judiciary Committee Hearing

This week, I had the opportunity to thank Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel for the great work he’s doing for our country. While the radical left continues to ignore the facts and chase their 15 seconds of screentime, Director Patel has more than proven his leadership, clarity, and action.

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, I called out the unjust attacks coming from the Democrats, their constant accusations, partisan agendas, and political theatrics. They’d rather smear the FBI than recognize the truth. Meanwhile, the case of Charlie Kirk remains a tragic reminder of what’s at stake. Charlie was known for his effective debates and meaningful conversations, but he was killed for standing up for what he believed in. He loved his faith, his family, and his country—a remarkable man who was silenced for speaking the truth.

As a former Sheriff, I’ve seen more enthusiasm and support for law enforcement because of what Director Kash Patel and President Donald J. Trump have done in the last eight months to protect the American people. Their leadership has restored accountability and brought back confidence in our institutions.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Reintroduces the Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act

The United States of America has a glaring pilot shortage. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 18,200 openings for airline and commercial pilots are projected each year, on average, over the decade. At a time when the U.S.A. is experiencing record air travel, it's crucial that we have enough experienced pilots to get people and goods to their destinations without delays.

That's why I reintroduced the Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act. My common-sense legislation would raise the retirement age of commercial pilots from 65 to 67 while still maintaining the same rigorous medical and training requirements all other pilots in the industry are expected to maintain.

Addressing the pilot shortage is one of my top priorities in Congress. Both House and Senate Republican leadership have expressed support for this initiative, as well as prominent aviation associations. I encourage all of my colleagues to get on board and do the right thing for the American aviation industry by joining me in pushing my bill across the finish line to permanently codify my proposal.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Keep Government Open

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, a Trump-backed clean, short-term continuing resolution (CR) that allows the federal government to stay open at current funding levels while Congress continues to make progress to complete the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) appropriations process. I voted “YES” to pass this short-term CR, which funds the government through November 21, 2025, and allows Congress to continue to work through the rest of the appropriations process

My House Republican colleagues and I are engaged in ongoing, bipartisan conversations to fund the government for FY26. The Democrat Party’s last-ditch proposal was simply unrealistic. It would have added $1.4 trillion in spending just to keep the government open for a few months and would have unraveled much of President Trump’s work.

Know this: If the government shuts down, it’s not because of my Republican colleagues and me. Democrats will own the government shutdown, should one occur.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Witnesses at House Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing on the Rising Threat of Malicious Drone Use in America

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance held a hearing this week titled "Unmanned and Unchecked: Confronting the Rising Threat of Malicious Drone Use in America." This hearing focused on the rising threat posed by unauthorized and criminal use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, in both the national and international airspace.

During the hearing, I discussed the threat posed by drones entering restricted airspace near airports and other critical infrastructure.  If a bad actor with bad intentions flew a drone into restricted airspace near an airport that can only detect a drone, the airport is restricted from doing anything but watching the drone fly through the restricted airspace. There is nothing airports can do to mitigate the drone. This is a massive problem and poses a severe threat to the flying public.

Congress needs to get serious about drone mitigation so that a disaster doesn’t occur and no one gets hurt, or worse, lives are lost.

Aviation Chairman Troy E. Nehls and Rep. Sharice Davids Hold Fourth Session of the Bipartisan ATC/NAS Modernization Working Group

This week, the bipartisan Air Traffic Control (ATC)/ National Airspace System (NAS) Modernization Working Group held its fourth session. As Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, I had discussions, alongside my colleague, Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS), with those involved in general aviation in America. From recreational flying to emergency services to non-commercial, non-scheduled civilian flight, general aviation encompasses a wide range of aircraft and generates billions of dollars in economic activity, and provides over a million jobs for hardworking Americans. Our conversation was extremely productive and provided necessary insights into how America's air traffic control and national airspace systems can better serve those involved in general aviation. My colleague, Representative Davids, and I look forward to continuing this open dialogue, which is helping guide the overhauling of our outdated aviation systems.

Aviation Chairman Troy E. Nehls Joins Aero Club to Discuss T&I Efforts to Modernize ATC System and More

This week, I joined a bipartisan aviation panel with Representatives Sharice Davids (D-KS) and Ron Estes (R-KS) to discuss the issues in aviation policy, like air traffic control (ATC) modernization, government funding, tariffs, and the integration of new technologies like drones and supersonic air travel.

As Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, I'm focused on modernizing our air traffic systems, supporting America's aviation workforce, and ensuring that the United States remains the world leader in air safety and innovation. I also stressed the importance of filling the U.S. ambassador post to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) so America continues to have a strong voice on the world stage when it comes to decisions made about civil aviation.

By working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and hearing directly from industry stakeholders, we are making sure Congress takes the right steps to improve safety, strengthen our infrastructure, and keep America competitive in the skies.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Pass Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

This week, I voted "YES" to pass H.R. Res. 719 to honor the life of Charlie Kirk and strongly condemn the evil act of political violence that took him from us. This resolution honors the life, leadership, and legacy of Charlie Kirk.

Specifically, the resolution honors the life and legacy of Charlie, condemns the assassination of Charlie, condemns all political violence, and calls on all Americans to reject political violence and to recommit to respectful debate. Unfortunately, 58 House Democrats voted against this resolution, and 38 House Democrats voted "present." In a time when we should all come together to turn down the temperature, regardless of political party, I'm deeply disappointed in my colleagues in the House who didn't vote to pass this resolution.

Charlie inspired millions to stand for faith, family, and freedom. My family continues to lift up Erika and their children in prayer during this heartbreaking time. America must send a clear message that political violence has no place in our country.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Attends House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Markup

This week, I attended the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Markup, where we passed several important bills to strengthen America’s infrastructure, energy security, and waterways.

One of the key bills was H.R. 5301, the Promoting Innovation in Pipeline Efficiency and Safety (PIPES) Act of 2025. America is blessed with abundant energy resources, and pipelines are the safest, most reliable, and most cost-effective way to deliver oil and natural gas to families and businesses. The PIPES Act ensures we strike the right balance between innovation and safety while keeping the United States a global leader in energy production and exports.

We also passed H.R. 4183, the Federal Maritime Commission Reauthorization Act of 2025, which protects American shippers and carriers from unfair practices by foreign-flagged ocean carriers. This bill ensures a level playing field so American workers and businesses are not undercut by foreign interests.

Finally, the Committee passed H.R. 3962, the Enhancing Science, Treatment, and Upkeep of America’s Resilient and Important Estuarine Systems (ESTUARIES) Act, reauthorizing the National Estuary Program to protect our coasts, waterways, and the communities that depend on them.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Recognizes Rep. Derrick Van Orden for Saving a Young Boy's Life on the House Floor

This week, I spoke on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to honor my friend and colleague, Representative Derrick Van Orden.

Representative Van Orden's combat training kicked in to save an 11-year-old boy while he and his wife were traveling in Iowa. Representative Van Orden and his wife were driving down Interstate 35 when they heard a loud boom. Upon hearing the loud noise, he and his wife immediately turned around and arrived on the scene of a crash that resulted in a young boy obtaining severe injuries, including his calf being completely ripped apart and an arterial bleed in his right wrist.

Without hesitation, Representative Van Orden fashioned two pairs of socks that were in his suitcase into makeshift tourniquets to stop the bleeding in the boy's leg and arm. With the assistance of two civilians on the scene, Representative Van Orden was able to cut seatbelts, a windshield wiper, and a piece of metal to make additional makeshift tourniquets to stop the bleeding of the young boy until first responders arrived.

May the actions of Representative Van Orden, a true Good Samaritan, and the folks who assisted in saving the young boy inspire all Americans to lend a helping hand to those in need. You truly never know how far an act of kindness, big or small, can go.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" on Restoring Law and Order and Energy Independence

This week, I proudly voted “YES” on multiple bills to crack down on violent crime in Washington, D.C. and unleash American energy dominance to lower costs for working families.

My House Republican colleagues and I passed H.R. 4922, the District of Columbia Crimes Act of 2025, H.R. 5143, the District of Columbia Policing Protection Act of 2025, and H.R. 5140, the Juvenile Violent Offender Accountability Act. These bills roll back D.C.'s soft-on-crime policies, strengthen penalties for violent offenders, and give law enforcement the tools they need to protect residents, visitors, and federal workers in our nation’s capital. With President Donald J. Trump's efforts, more than 2,600 dangerous criminals were arrested, nine missing children have been rescued, lethal drugs, including fentanyl, were removed from the streets, 20 known gang members have been arrested, and several suspected terrorists were arrested.

This week, we also passed H.R. 1047, the Guaranteeing Reliability through the Interconnection of Dispatchable Power Act, H.R. 3062, the Promoting Cross-Border Energy Infrastructure Act, and H.R. 3015, the National Coal Council Reestablishment Act. Together, these bills strengthen our electric grid, cut red tape for critical energy projects, and reestablish the National Coal Council to ensure coal remains part of America’s energy mix. By boosting reliability, these measures will secure affordable energy for American families while protecting American jobs.

This Week in Texas' 22nd District

Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open

My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations.

One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies.

Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 10, 2025, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees.

The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at (346) 762-6600.

Resources for Hurricane Season

Being well-prepared for hurricanes and other natural disasters is crucial to protecting your family and minimizing disruption to daily life. Federal resources, such as those provided by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ready.gov, offer valuable guidance, including emergency alerts, disaster planning tools, and response checklists tailored to individual and family needs.

As hurricane season approaches, staying proactive can make a significant difference. Monitor trusted sources like the National Hurricane Center for real-time updates and establish a comprehensive emergency plan that covers evacuation routes, family communication, and essential supplies. It’s also wise to prepare your home by securing outdoor items, reinforcing windows and doors, and reviewing your insurance policies—especially for those in coastal or flood-prone areas.

For further assistance, FEMA’s Resource Library for Individual Assistance provides clear information on disaster support services, how assistance works, and what steps to take after applying. If you’ve already submitted a claim, visit I Applied for Assistance. What's Next? on FEMA.gov for guidance on next steps.

Be sure to check out my website for further local and state resources on how to prepare for a natural disaster.

If you have any questions or need support, please contact Congressman Nehls’ Fulshear District Office at (346) 662-6600. Our office is here to assist you throughout this hurricane season.
