Big news: John Hickenlooper (D) is now officially the Democratic nominee in Colorado’s must-win Senate race. After serving his community as the Mayor of Denver and his state as Governor, John is ready to fight tirelessly for our progressive values in the Senate.
John has provided steady leadership for Colorado in the moments it has mattered most – from helping the state recover from devastating floods and wildfires to uniting Coloradans trying to heal in the aftermath of one of our country's worst mass shootings. Right now, when true leadership is more urgently needed than ever, I know John's voice will be invaluable in the Senate. I need him as an ally and colleague. We all need him.
Every major political analyst from The Hill to Politico to Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight has called John's toss-up race the best chance Democrats have to flip a red seat blue. And since we need to pick up four seats to protect the Supreme Court and take the Senate back from Mitch McConnell, this race is a must-win.
But Republicans are doing whatever it takes to keep that from happening, and John needs to close a $10,000 fundraising gap before midnight if he's going to have the resources he needs to take the lead and flip this crucial seat. Mitch McConnell and his allies are outspending John 3-to-1. So far they've dumped more than $12 million into Colorado to defeat him. That means winning this race is going to require all hands on deck – and John can't defend himself against this flood of outside money without our immediate grassroots support.
