john,

This week, I want to lift up an important fight happening in Washington that impacts working people across the country. The Protect America’s Workforce Act has been introduced in the U.S. Senate, aiming to reverse the harmful executive orders issued by the Trump administration that stripped nearly one million federal workers of their collective bargaining rights and led to the cancellation of contracts for over 450,000 workers across various agencies.

As AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler said in a statement, “Donald Trump’s executive order launched the biggest act of union-busting in our history, ripping away collective bargaining rights from a million federal workers.” These actions have not only undermined the rights of dedicated public servants but have also jeopardized the essential services that communities across the nation rely on.

The introduction of this bill is a crucial step toward restoring fairness and respect for federal workers. Senators Mark Warner, Chris Van Hollen, and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have already co-sponsored the legislation, but we need every senator—Democrat, Republican, and independent—who claims to support America’s unions to back this bill and restore federal workers’ union rights.

Recognizing when elected officials do the right thing by supporting workers will encourage them to continue advocating for federal employees and inspire more senators to support the bill. Your voice matters in this effort. You can take action today by thanking your senators if they have co-sponsored the Protect America’s Workforce Act or urging them to do so if they haven't yet.

UPCOMING EVENTS & ACTIONS

Thank Your Senator for Co-Sponsoring the Protect America's Workforce Act

Labor Organized and helped introduce a bipartisan bill in Congress to overturn Trump's Executive Order that stripped away the right to collectively bargain, and we're close to the signatures needed to bring it to the floor for a vote.

Now the Protect America’s Workforce Act has been introduced in the Senate—and your senators have both signed on as co-sponsors. This is incredible news, and we want to show our appreciation. Make a call to thank them!

Recognizing when elected officials do the right thing by supporting workers will encourage them to speak out for our federal workers and encourage more senators to support the bill. And it will go a long way toward helping ensure that they’ll continue to stand with workers.

Make A "Thank You" Call

CALL: Stop Looming Health Care Price Spikes!

On Nov. 1, Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces in most states will begin to open for enrollment for next year.

Unless Congress acts, more than 90% of people enrolled in ACA health care plans will see out-of-pocket premiums jump by 75% on average. Millions could lose coverage altogether when a key tax credit drops at the end of the year. And higher costs for Affordable Care Act health care plans ultimately will result in higher health care costs for everyone—including people who get their health insurance through their jobs. The last thing families need is health care bills soaring at a time when we’re also dealing with rising food, housing, electricity, gas and other costs.

Congress must act. Please make a call to tell your senators and representative to stop the health care price spike NOW! Call 855-493-4407.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is a beautifully written novel set in 1920s Alaska, where Jack and Mabel, an aging couple, are struggling to build a life after years of heartbreak. One winter evening, they shape a child out of snow for fun, and soon after, a real, wild young girl named Faina begins appearing in the woods near their home. As she enters their lives, their world shifts. Isolation turns into connection, and grief into fragile joy.
Specifically, for or union working parents, this story may resonate deeply. It’s about trying to raise something meaningful in the middle of hardship, whether it’s a family, a future, or a life built on your own terms. Jack’s fear of being seemingly forced into the coal mines is a quiet but powerful reminder of what many working people know all too well. The tension between survival and autonomy. Like organizing, like parenting, this book is about forging hope in harsh places, even when the outcome is uncertain.
