John,

The worst headlines are not always our reality. I was elected to make change for the better, and even with Donald Trump in the White House, I’m working to bring investments back into our community, tirelessly legislating to keep our communities healthy and safe, while boosting our local economies and keeping your costs down.

I want to share just a few of the bills that I’m leading which will have a meaningful impact on Californians in Los Angeles County and across the state:

Cut Red Tape for Housing Act: Home costs were already out of reach for too many families before the devastating wildfires drove up housing scarcity even more, at a time when commutes in Los Angeles County are already among the highest in the nation.

That’s why I’ve introduced the Cut Red Tape for Housing Act, which will reduce barriers to building affordable housing in order to lower housing costs. It's commonsense policy to help people spend less on rent and save more for other expenses.

Trade Review Act: Donald Trump’s tariffs are illegal… period. Only Congress has the constitutionally recognized role to set trade policy, and we need to make that absolutely clear to everyone in Washington – and with it, reduce the financial strain these tariffs are causing small businesses, at kitchen tables around the country.

I’m working with colleagues of all stripes to advance the Trade Review Act, so that our shops, schools, restaurants, and more get critical relief from bad policy that’s making their jobs harder.

FEMA Act: Given the increased cost of natural disasters, including the ongoing recovery for tens of thousands of Angelenos, we need to make our nation’s top disaster aid agency more efficient and effective. Working with colleagues on Transportation & Infrastructure, we have crafted a sweeping FEMA Act to cover the cracks in support we’re observing in our communities.

This legislation includes my Don’t Penalize Victims Act, which ensures natural disaster victims receiving community-based financial support do not get punished further by stripping them of federal disaster assistance.

I will never stop working for basic decency and the well-being of our neighbors and community – in Los Angeles, across CA-30, and in Washington.

Thank you,

Laura
