“While nannies disappear from local parks and masked agents drag immigrant fathers from cars, the Trump administration continues to use safety as a pretext for mass deportation—but it is mass deportation itself that makes all Americans LESS safe.”
This is the message that the American Immigration Council brought before Congress yesterday.
From day one, the Trump administration has diverted resources away from federal agencies — those tasked with protecting Americans from terrorist attacks, illicit drugs, and human traffickers — to focus on low-level immigration arrests.
As the Council’s policy director, I warned members of Congress that this makes our communities more vulnerable to political violence, organized crime, and domestic terrorism.
How many agents have been reassigned to immigration enforcement? The statistics are beyond alarming:
20% of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); 25% of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); 80% of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and almost 100% of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents are now immigration enforcers.
As I told Congress yesterday, “What’s left is a chilling message: No immigrant is safe, no matter our background, status or contribution — and mass deportation comes at any cost, including Americans’ safety.”
I encourage you to watch and share my testimony with your friends, family, and colleagues. We cannot let the administration’s mass deportation agenda put us all in danger.
Sincerely,
Nayna Gupta Policy Director, American Immigration Council
