I Joined Laura Ingraham on Fox News
I joined Laura Ingraham on her program Tuesday night to discuss the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk and how we are carrying his mission forward. Our message to the nation is clear: we will not step back, and we will not be silent. Click here to watch the interview.
Establishing the Committees on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education, Honoring the Life & Legacy of Charlie Kirk
Speaker Dustin Burrows and I announced the formation of Senate and House Select Committees on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education. These select committees will meet jointly to study and issue reports on bias, discourse, and freedom of speech across Texas college campuses.
The First Amendment guarantees the freedoms of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and petition. It is the First Amendment because it is the foundation of all our rights. In that list, the free exercise of religion is paramount. Take away a person’s right to free exercise of religion, and every other right falls quickly.
Charlie Kirk was my friend. He was assassinated for simply expressing his First Amendment rights. The attack on Charlie was an attack on the First Amendment. Those who cheered his murder are also cheering for the death of America. We cannot tolerate either at our institutions of higher learning.
Religious Liberty Is America's Core Right
I was honored to stand with President Trump and the Religious Liberty Commission that I chair — joined by Dr. Phil, Kelly Shackleford, Pastor Paula White, and Rev. Franklin Graham to my left, and my Vice Chair, Dr. Ben Carson, to my right, along with Bishop Robert Barron and Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
Here’s an editorial I wrote on the subject.
Championing Public Education
Last Friday, I spoke to the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas Association of School Administrators in Houston. I shared my commitment to public education and had a meaningful conversation with school leaders about the legislative and cultural issues shaping our classrooms and communities. I was truly honored to receive an award for being a champion of public education.
Celebrating the Remarkable Career of TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier
On Tuesday afternoon, I had the privilege of speaking at the retirement reception for Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Executive Director Bryan Collier. We celebrated the close of a remarkable chapter in his career — 40 years of dedicated service to TDCJ, including nine years as Executive Director. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and lifelong commitment to public service, and we wish him all the best in this next chapter of life.
Speaking with Houston’s Premier Business Leaders
With HRBC Chairman Alan Hassenflu
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to speak at the Houston Region Business Coalition (HRBC) luncheon. As Houston’s premier business coalition, HRBC is doing incredible work to advocate for policies that strengthen our local economy and support job growth.
Attending the Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame Game
I had the chance to witness one of the all-time great Texas A&M football games last Saturday — at Notre Dame, no less!
The White House Executive Director of the Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty happens to be an Aggie, and her husband is a proud Notre Dame graduate. They graciously invited me to join them and their friends for the game. It felt like 40% (or more!) of the crowd were Aggies — an incredible showing of school spirit!
I ran into so many Aggies throughout the day. One of A&M’s biggest fans, Pastor Gregg Matte from Houston’s First Baptist Church, was there as well. Gregg and I have been friends for many years, so it was great to see him.
Thank you for all your support over the years and for everything you do to keep Texas red. May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless the greatest state of all—Texas.
Sincerely,
Dan Patrick
Lieutenant Governor of Texas
