How You Can Help: Taking Legal Action Against Racial and Social Inequities

The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley has a long history of working to increase access to justice for low-income families and communities of color.

Since our launch in 1974, we have provided tens of thousands of low-income people of color free legal services aimed at ensuring access to the opportunities they are entitled to, including safe housing, quality education, and freedom from discrimination. At the same time, we have long advocated for solutions to broken systems that result in the application of racist policies in housing, health, child welfare, education, criminal justice and more.

But we know we can do more, and like you, we are further strengthening our commitment to racial and social justice. In recent months, we have successfully:
  • Advocated for eviction moratoriums to help people of color keep their homes.
  • Supported the Affordable Care Act and assisted people in accessing stimulus payments.
  • Advocated for the rights of Black and Latinx foster children.
  • Helped protect people who are incarcerated from unnecessary exposure to COVID-19.
Call to Action
There are many tangible ways you can help the Law Foundation address systemic racism.
  • Volunteer. Volunteer opportunities exist in each of the Law Foundation's program areas, including our name and gender marker change program, and our small business pro bono program, which has primarily served small businesses owned by women of color. Learn more and get involved.
  • Donate. As a non-profit organization, we rely on government funding and donations from generous donors to make our work possible. With state and local budgets facing serious cuts because of the economic downturn, we are also expecting financial challenges. In the meantime, the need for our services is greater than ever. Give for justice today.
  • Spread the word. Help us educate our colleagues, family, and friends on the critical role legal services organizations like the Law Foundation play in addressing racial and social inequities. Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter and "like," share and retweet our posts. Sign up to receive our emails and then forward them on.
Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today and help ensure that our team of staff attorneys and volunteers is available to support clients in the months to come.  Any amount will make a difference. Thank you for your support.
