General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Happy Friday, New Jersey!

TELL US YOUR STORY

Working for New Jersey:

SHARING NEW JERSEYANS STORIES:

With the looming government funding deadline at the end of the month, we asked New Jerseyans to share how rising healthcare costs would impact them. Their stories paint a clear picture.

Jody from Manchester, NJ shared that rising costs across the board might force her to choose between food and medicine.

Jennifer from Lawrenceville, NJ shared, “If ACA premiums go up it will take away a huge chunk of my retirement savings. My husband who is retired may have to go back to work when he should be enjoying his golden years. My retirement will be put on hold.”

And Silvia from Whiting, NJ told us that rising ACA premium costs would mean “Less visits to doctors for health care. No more visits for preventative care. It will be critical care only.”

And it’s not just healthcare costs that are rising. Despite the fact that from day one, Donald Trump promised to lower costs, what we hear from New Jerseyans is rising costs across the board due to his chaotic economic policies. Hard-working Americans are struggling to pay for groceries, rent, electricity, and more.

The choice remains: Will Republicans in Congress help us bring down healthcare costs and protect coverage for millions of Americans, or will they shut the government down?

Working for you at the Capitol:

FIGHTING FOR PAID FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE:

Paid family leave should be a right, not a luxury, for every worker.

You should be able to spend those first days with your child, or take care of an aging parent, without having to worry about putting your job on the line.

That’s why Senator Kim is proud to help lead the reintroduction of the FAMILY Act to support paid family and medical leave for all.

STANDING UP AGAINST CORRUPTION:

Trust in government is near historic lows. Only 22% of Americans say they trust the federal government to do the right thing and 85% of Americans don’t think elected officials care about what people like them think.

This week, Senator Kim introduced the Restoring Trust in Public Servants Act, legislation that bans the owning and trading of stocks across all 3 branches of government, as well as institutes a lifelong lobbying ban and restrictions on outside earned income.

In Congress and across the federal government, ALL public servants should be focused on what is best for YOU, not their own bottom line.

SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE CONFIRMATION OF STEPHEN MIRAN:

Federal Reserve Board member Stephen Miran can’t be politically independent if he is ALSO Trump’s Chief Economic Advisor.

It’s critical that the Fed remain politically independent. Here’s why it should matter to you.

PROMOTING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT:

The right to vote is central to American identity and prosperity. But for too many, convoluted rules and impossible logistics make it far too difficult.

That’s why Senator Kim is proud to cosponsor the Register America to Vote Act and the Same Day Registration Act. In streamlining the registration process, these bills will make sure that all Americans have an equal opportunity to participate in democracy.
