This AM, Bushra joined her neighbors at a peaceful protest against ICE at their Broadway facility in Chicago. Ever since Trump unleashed “Operation Midway Blitz” on Chicago, our city has become one of nations biggest flashpoints of resistance—and today was no different.

ICE responded to our protest with violent escalation— ramming protestors with their cars, beating people up, and firing tear gas into the crowd. Bushra was one of the people hit.

I was on the ground when it happened, and Bushra is still recovering from the tear gas—so I’m picking up the torch and sending this email out.

Donald Trump is using ICE as his personal Gestapo—unleashing brute force on peaceful protesters while his fascist machine tightens its grip: the FCC bullying ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel, Pam Bondi vowing to criminalize dissent as “hate speech,” and reports that his regime may even brand transgender people as “violent extremists.”

Fascism is here in America, right now. 

Now more than ever, it is essential to elect leaders like Bushra—people who don’t just repeat talking points, but take direct action. Leaders willing to stand on the front lines, even in the face of tear gas, to protect their communities.
