Dear John,
It was with great hope and a deep sense of community that we gathered on September 13 to celebrate the 2025 Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Awards and honor this year’s esteemed laureates:

Freedom of Speech and Expression: Teen Vogue
Freedom of Worship: Dr. Jacqui Lewis
Freedom from Want: World Central Kitchen
Freedom from Fear: Center for Victims of Torture
Freedom Medal: Darren Walker

Just as Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt responded to their moment in history with energy, urgency, and vision, so too do this year’s laureates. And as we acknowledged their many accomplishments throughout the day, one truth rang clear: the power of community is essential—not just to sustain freedom, but to expand it. As Javier Garcia of World Central Kitchen so powerfully stated, “Freedom is something that we build together.” Our relationships with one another give us the courage to act boldly, to dream ambitiously, and to meet the challenges of our time with unity and purpose.

Whether you joined us in person or tuned in from home, we hope the experience left you with a renewed sense of defiance, hope, and commitment to the freedoms we must continue fighting to secure. One guest shared, “I am walking back into the world with more bounce and possibility, thanks to today.”

If you missed the ceremony—or would like to revisit a favorite moment—you can watch the full recording online here. ([link removed])

And if you haven’t yet had the chance to support the invaluable work of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, we invite you to do so today ([link removed]) . Your support ensures that the lessons of history and the values of democracy remain visible, tangible, and accessible—for today’s generation and those yet to come.

With gratitude,

Elizabeth Wilkins Anna Eleanor Roosevelt
President & CEO Board Chair
