Hey John, It's Summer.
The other day, I reached out because we’re still short on our monthly grassroots goal. But I don’t just want to ask y’all for help—I want you to see the work I’m putting in every single day.
Because when I say I won’t take corporate PAC checks or billionaire favors, I mean it. I mean it in how I run my campaign. And I mean it in how I legislate.
Talk is cheap. Anybody can say they’re for the people, but you can’t claim to be the party of the working class while cashing checks from the same billionaires and corporations that hold working folks down. That’s not who I am and that’s not why I ran for Congress.
Just this year I introduced the Abolish Super PACs Act—to shut down one of the biggest vehicles billionaires use to drown out working people. I also helped bring forward the OLIGARCH Act, so we can finally rein in the wealth and political power of the ultra-rich.
But I didn’t stop there. I held a roundtable in Pittsburgh to bring our community together and demand change to abolish Super PACs, overturn Citizens United, and stop corporate giants from buying our elections. I also introduced the Stop the Super PAC-Candidate Coordination Act, to finally cut the backroom ties between candidates and outside groups. And in the same week, I signed on to the Billionaire Income Tax Act, to make sure the ultra-wealthy start paying their fair share while also joining my colleagues in introducing a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and restore the ability of Congress and states to set commonsense limits on money in politics.
That’s the work. And that’s the fight I've been leading in Congress.
But here’s the hard truth: the more I push to take power away from billionaires, the more of a target I become to them. They’re ready to flood my district with millions again. And without grassroots support, we are bound to fall behind. While I knew bucking the system would make me a target, it’s a fight I'm ready to lead no matter the repercussions.
I know times are tough. I know every dollar matters. And I also know this: together, we can build a democracy that belongs to us—not them.
