VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump gives away the game with Kimmel confession
Our notoriously thin-skinned president just gave away the game on Air Force One yesterday, openly admitting that the FCC's pressure campaign to force Jimmy Kimmel off the air had nothing to do with the late-night host's comments on Charlie Kirk — which, again, were completely innocuous — but rather part of a larger strategy to suppress and muzzle ANY criticism of the MAGA cult leader himself. It is never not about Donald.

Trump suggests FCC could revoke licenses of TV broadcasters that give him too much "bad publicity"
Need further proof this Kimmel brouhaha has absolutely NOTHING to do with Charlie Kirk? The wannabe dictator is now warning that TV broadcasters could lose their federal licenses over what he personally perceives as negative coverage of him. The message is clear: flatter and appease Dear Leader or go dark. We aren't just flirting with fascism, folks, we're going steady.

Progressive champion Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announces run for re-election
Tim Walz for Governor: Gov. Tim Walz has spent the past six years making Minnesota the best place in America to raise a family — cutting child poverty, expanding labor rights, investing in education, and making sure every student gets free breakfast and lunch at school. But MAGA extremists are salivating at the thought of retaking the governor’s mansion, turning Minnesota into yet another failed Republican state, and sabotaging the election systems in a critical battleground state. Will you chip in to help re-elect Tim Walz and keep Republicans from ruining another state?
US neo-Nazi fight club is using Charlie Kirk’s killing to recruit new members
Great news! Neo-fascist "fight clubs" are continuing to surge in popularity across the country (and beyond!), as organizers have capitalized on Charlie Kirk's murder to recruit and entice new members with promises of blood, vengeance, and racist camaraderie. These so-called "active clubs" are a loose collective of neo-Nazi mixed martial arts groups that gather at local gyms and parks to train, tapping into existing gangs of white nationalists or adjacent organizations. Authorities view them as perhaps one of the most organized and pernicious domestic terrorism threats, emanating from far-right political ideologies — for now, anyway. Once Trump's cronies finish scrubbing government databases of pesky evidence incontrovertibly proving otherwise, we'll just have to figure out how to blame liberal snowflakes for this mess, too.

"Angry and disappointed": Kamala Harris critical of Joe Biden in new book
The former vice president's campaign memoir, "107 Days," is due to drop next week, and it's apparently full of some real doozies, including one peculiar anecdote about a phone call she received from then-President Joe Biden just hours before her lone debate against Donald Trump last September. According to Harris, Biden called to ostensibly wish her good luck, then veered into a sophomoric rant about his past debate performances AND Philadelphia power brokers with connections to his brother withholding their support for Harris because she was supposedly saying not-nice things about him behind his back. Oookay. Eyes on the prize, eh, Joe?! Hard to believe Kamala's race wasn't a successful one when she was given all of 107 days to mount a campaign to stop Donald Trump from his ruinous return to power.

Jon Stewart returns to "The Daily Show" to deliver "government-approved," "administration-compliant" monologue
Stewart stopped by the Comedy Central studios for a surprise, mid-week appearance and he did not disappoint. Maybe this guy should run in 2028...

FCC commissioner rebukes agency’s chair, says "we don't have the authority" to retaliate against broadcasters
Commissioner Anna Gomez of the Federal Communications Commission said FCC Chair Brendan Carr and the agency do not actually have the authority to revoke broadcasters’ licenses, despite Carr’s threats. Gomez — whose job is likely now at risk — explained, "We license local broadcasters. So, there is no license to pull for the networks. The local broadcasters get some programming from the networks. But second of all, we are governed by the First Amendment and by the Communications Act, which prohibits us from censoring broadcasters. So no, we cannot pull local broadcasters’ licenses simply because they air content that [Trump] does not like." Gomez reiterated that the FCC lacks the authority to deliver on the kind of threatening and retaliatory behavior that Carr, a bona fide Trump toady, has been engaging in and called for the fourth estate to step up and do its goddamn job holding the government to account. Something tells us she's going to be disappointed with the media's follow-through on that request.
This rollback could turn over 45 million acres of national forestlands to private logging companies
Earthjustice: National forests that are part of our public lands system are under attack by the Trump administration. For nearly 25 years, pristine forests in backcountry lands across the nation have been off limits to massive corporate logging operations, thanks to a Forest Service policy known as the Roadless Rule. These forests provide vital wildlife habitat; protect clean, mountain-fed drinking water for millions of Americans; and provide endless recreational opportunities like camping, hunting, fishing, rafting, and mountain biking. Join the fight to protect the forests that belong to all of us by keeping the Roadless Rule in place!
Grocery prices have jumped up, and there's no relief in sight
NPR is reporting that grocery prices — despite incessant declarations by Trump and his MAGA minions on the 2024 campaign trail that help was definitely on the way — have jumped yet again, with no relief in sight. Stand by for word on just when the sweet, dulcet tones of your favorite station on the left end of the dial go to static.
Kennedy’s advisory panel recommends new restrictions on MMRV vaccines
America's self-destructive war on health and science marches on, as Robert F. Kennedy's hand-picked vaccine advisory panel recommended new restrictions on a combination shot that protects against chickenpox as well as measles, mumps, and rubella. The panel advised that the vaccine known as MMRV not be given before age 4 and that children in this age group instead get separate vaccines — one against MMR and another for varicella, or chickenpox. The vote was 8-3, with one member abstaining. Many doctors and public health experts say the committee is creating fear and mistrust around vaccines at a time when US vaccination rates are already falling. Kennedy, an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist with no medical expertise, has made or proposed numerous changes to the nation’s vaccine system, including firing the entire 17-member panel earlier this year and replacing it with a group that includes several anti-vaccine allies. A little free advice: when choosing what's best for your kids' health, trust your own doctors over the mad ramblings of a man who once decapitated a beached whale and had his children help tie the head down on top of his car for a five-hour drive back home. This man is not well, and we won't be either if we're forced to accept his crackpot medical recommendations.
Trump suggests US troops could return to base in Afghanistan, citing its proximity to rival China
During his state visit to the United Kingdom this week, the MAGA cult leader revealed that his administration wants US troops to return to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, citing the base's proximity to China for the shift in policy. Despite Trump setting the terms for the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in a deal negotiated with the Taliban during his first term, the wannabe dictator blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the US military's chaotic withdrawal in 2021 and claimed the air base should have "never been given back."
