Shabbat Shalom for the last time in 5785, Friend.
As we prepare for Rosh Hashanah, I hope your days are filled with
the sweetness of celebrating a new year, and the
courage to face hard truths and make
teshuvah, repair.
Reflecting on this last year, I’ve been heartened by Jews
and allies like YOU who have risen to this political moment
and rejected division.
And I’ve been furious as I’ve witnessed unwavering
attacks on immigrants, trans people, students, activists,
institutions, and democracy itself. The loss of lives and livelihoods
of the last year is horrific, and we are witnessing these attacks
continuing to escalate day by day.
And I’ve been heartbroken as some in our Jewish community
continue to fall for the false promises of safety being
offered if we only turn our backs on others and allow these harms to
happen. I am devastated at the ways these harms are used to divide us
and make us fear each other.
In some ways, I understand — antisemitism feels more dangerous in
our country than ever before in my lifetime. But we cannot allow our
fears to divide us and harm others. We are only safer together, and
there is no more powerful teshuvah than action.
Here are three ways you can
start the new year with us in solidarity and with
power:
-
Join our campaign to fight fascism: A new monthly
offering for those who are new-ish to Bend the Arc or have never
joined us live before. RSVP
for our next national call on Monday, September
29.
-
Recommit to the work ahead: We’ll keep taking on big
fights to keep our beloved communities safe in 5786. Help
grow our movement’s urgent work with a gift of $10, $18, $36, or any
other amount before Rosh Hashanah.
-
Talk to other Jews about important issues: Learn how
to change hearts and minds while stopping the use of Jewish pain and
fear to attack our freedoms. Sign
up for our next phonebank on Monday, October 6.
