The candidate I am today doesn’t exist in a vacuum, John.
I’m still the little Black boy from Chicago, born hard of hearing, whose biological mother suffered from a substance abuse disorder.
The same fight I’m bringing to Washington started way back then—when folks told me I’d “never amount to anything.” Even though I believed them sometimes, I remembered what my father told me: “All you have to do is try.”
So I did—and I found a passion for organizing my community, eventually becoming a state Senator. Now, I’m running to represent IL-02 in Congress.
But even though I’ve defied the odds, the fight is far from over.
There are still so many kids who have the odds stacked against them without anyone on their side who understands. And that’s why I’m running: to advocate for every one of those kids.
But here’s the thing: I can’t defy the odds on my own in this race.
I’m building a grassroots campaign and refusing corporate PAC money. So that means I’m relying on your help, John.
Will you chip in $27 now to this grassroots campaign so I, that little kid from Chicago, can advocate for everyone who has the odds stacked against them? >>

Thank you, John!
-- Robert Peters

Robert Peters knows what it means to defy the odds. Born deaf to a mother battling addiction and raised by a social worker and a civil rights attorney on the South Side of Chicago, he learned early on what it means to fight for justice and care for the community.
That’s why he became a public servant—to build systems that work for all people.
Now, Robert is ready to take that fight to Washington and build an Illinois that works for all of us—not just the wealthy or well-connected. But he can’t do it alone.
So please, will you become a Founding Donor today and power this people-first, grassroots movement? >>
