A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

We've been working hard as a Council to get our house in order to ensure we can deliver good, value for money services for local people so it is really positive to see how much our financial position has improved in our latest budget report outlined below. Our latest position forecasts an underspend of £3 million in this financial year, which is good news, but we cannot overlook continuing challenges and remain disciplined and focussed.

It's great news that the Broad Marsh redevelopment won the Future Ambition category at the East Midlands Property Awards last week. It's recognition for the huge amount of work we have put in to the Broad Marsh site over the last few years, including the Green Heart, the new Central Library and the bus station, and we're looking forward to the further regeneration planned for the area working with Homes England.

On Monday 22 September, the Nottingham Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth until their fifth birthday, will be rolled out to children living in Bestwood. Since its introduction in Nottingham, over 13,000 children have benefited from free books and nearly 600,000 books have been mailed to under 5’s in Nottingham. The scheme is only possible because of charitable fundraising. You can see more information here [link removed]

*One week to go until Goose Fair opens*

Goose Fair opens at 4pm on Friday 26 September! The ten day fair will take place at the Forest Recreation Ground until Sunday 5 October.

New rides this year include the steampunk-themed Time Machine, and Skyfall, the world’s tallest portable drop tower standing at an impressive 80-metres high. There will also be lots of returning favourites such as Atmosfear, Matterhorn, Starflyer, Magic Mouse, Aerospace, and a giant wheel giving panoramic views across the fair and the city beyond.

All the Goose Fair classics will be in attendance too, such as Waltzers, Dodgems, Gallopers, and the Cake Walk – the only ride still operating that featured when the fair was held at Old Market Square – plus lots of side-show games such as hook-a-duck, hoopla, darts, and basketball.

SEND sessions will take place on Sundays from 12pm-1pm, allowing children and people with special educational needs and disabilities to enjoy the fair without the loud noises and bright lights.

The Homemade Cafe [ [link removed] ] and Forest Sports Zone [ [link removed] ] at the Forest Recreation Ground will be open as usual during the fair.

City Council sets out plan to deliver for local people as its finances continue to improve

Nottingham City Council’s latest budget report shows it is continuing to improve its financial position with a forecasted underspend of £3 million in the current financial year, as the authority sets out a performance plan for how it will deliver on its priorities for Nottingham people.

The latest report, discussed by the Council’s Executive Board today, follows a better-than-expected budget outturn for the last financial year, 2024/25, which meant it needed to use only £7.7m of the £41m of Exceptional Financial Support it had been allowed by the Government to meet a funding gap.

Nottingham is awarded over £18m for warmer council homes

Nottingham City Council announced today that it has been awarded £18.202 million of government funding to deliver warmer, more energy-efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions and fuel bills, tackle fuel poverty, and support green jobs.

The funding, allocated by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero under the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 3 scheme, covers the period to the end of March 2028 and is part of a consortium bid of £151 million awarded to the Midlands Net Zero Hub (MNZH).

Active Nottingham celebrates final gym transformation at Ken Martin Leisure Centre

Ken Martin Leisure Centre’s gym has been transformed as part of a wider £1.5m investment in new equipment this September. It now marks the final completion in the city-wide upgrade of all Active Nottingham gyms.

Active Nottingham, part of Nottingham City Council, began its investment programme in March 2023, introducing a new gym concept that has already been enjoyed by members at Clifton, Djanogly, Southglade, Victoria, and Harvey Hadden. This five-year investment covers all six of its leisure centres: Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Clifton, Ken Martin, Southglade, Victoria, and Djanogly Community Leisure Centre – with Ken Martin now completing the final phase of the project.

The revamp at Ken Martin Leisure Centre includes premium equipment from Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, and ICG ®, which is suitable for all training interests and fitness levels. The centre joins Djanogly Community Leisure Centre and a select group of UK gyms to feature Symbio™ Cardio, designed to elevate every workout journey.

Broad Marsh vision
Broad Marsh 'ambition' wows the judges

The redevelopment of Nottingham’s Broad Marsh area has won an award acknowledging its ambition for the city.

It saw off strong competition to scoop the "Future Ambition" category at Insider Media’s 25th annual East Midlands Property Awards.

The site was sold to Homes England in March and its was the Government body who made the submission, acknowledging the significant work carried out by the city council to progress the wider vision for what will come over the next few years. This includes:


* Around 1,000 homes
* Up to 20,000 square metres of retail, office and community spaces
* Around 2,000 full-time jobs

Nottingham City to be at forefront of plans to transform neighbourhood health

Nottingham City has been chosen alongside 42 other areas by the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England to participate in the first wave of the National Neighbourhood Implementation Programme (NNHIP).

Led by the Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership, partners will trial new neighbourhood systems for health and care delivery. The programme, which will eventually be rolled out across the country, will initially focus on supporting adults living with multiple long-term conditions.
