💇 Over 200 families gathered at Alta Vista Elementary for the Washington Elementary District’s Refugee Family event! Families were given free backpacks and hygiene kits from Gathering Humanities, as well as free shoes from Good Soles and free haircuts from OT’s Barber School. |

🏠 This new school year, Lake Havasu Unified is gaining three new teachers – all of whom are LHUSD graduates! Ms. Bolton shared that she was inspired to return to Havasu to teach after taking an education professionals class in her junior year. Another, Ms. Bracmonte, is following in the footsteps of her grandfather, one of the first teachers at Lake Havasu High School when it opened in 1978. Ms. Gunderson, originally intended to go into medicine but fell in love with an early childhood course. Congratulations to these new teachers – we hope you have a wonderful year with your students!

🛒 The Vail Unified School District has a new program called THRIVE for 18-22 year old students in their special education program, designed to support students as they build connections with their community and prepare for life after high school. Just days into the new school year, students have already gone to Tractor Supply to volunteer and practice facing products, Walmart to grocery shop, the W. Anne Gibson-Esmond Station Library, and Michael’s to buy materials for a t-shirt business they plan on starting.

🐄 In the Flowing Wells School District in Tucson, Agriculture Teacher Caitlin Reynolds is fostering a learning environment where students want to be in class every day! Her class allows students to design their own “Supervised Agriculture Experiences” that inspire students, even those who may struggle in school. Caitlin is one of the semifinalists for the 2026 Arizona Teacher of the Year.

🍴 Through a partnership with Scottsdale Community College and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Scottsdale Unified’s Summer Meal Program served 135,000 meals to more than 9,600 children! |

💗 Congratulations to Samanatha from Tempe Union for placing 7th place internationally for her DECA Community Giving Project! Samantha led a donation drive that collected over 2,000 items for local groups like Tempe Action Agency and the town of Guadalupe. Way to go! |

🌊 Congratulations to Lily, Juliana, Ava, and Ayah (along with their instructor, Mrs. Mittelstadt) from Sonoran Sky Elementary in Paradise Valley for placing in the top 5 sixth-grade teams nationwide in the eCYBERMISSION science competition – and winning the People’s Choice Award! The "Clean Water Crew" researched and tested water samples from Scottsdale and Phoenix to assess the cleanliness and safety of local water sources. eCYBERMISSION is a free, virtual STEM competition for 6-9 grade students designed to promote Scientific Inquiry and Engineering Design.

🎖️ Kellen, a junior from Westwood High in Mesa, honored Navajo Code Talkers Day by performing the National Anthem at the Arizona State Capitol! Kellen is pictured in the picture above with Jason Chavez, Director of Tribal Affairs at the Arizona Governor’s Office, and Thomas Begay Sr., one of the last two surviving Navajo Code Talkers from World War II.
