Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility

This Independence Day, our celebrations may look different as we remain cautious and respectful of guidelines to help slow the spread of COVID-19. But the focus of this holiday remains the same: a celebration of the day our nation adopted the Declaration of Independence. And on this day, 244 years later, we are still striving – and at times struggling – to meet the values outlined in that guiding document that make America exceptional in so many respects. It is with these values and freedoms in mind that must move forward in our everyday lives as good citizens, responsible parents, and reliable friends. We should engage in conversations with others to reinforce the values we hold dear.

At Responsibility.org, our missions are to eliminate underage drinking, to eliminate drunk driving and work with others to curb all impaired driving, and to promote the responsible consumption of beverage alcohol to those of age who choose to drink. We are proud to have you as part of our community—a person who shares, upholds, and encourages these values as part of living a balanced lifestyle.

While large gatherings and celebrations may have to wait for another time, we hope you will celebrate the 4th of July with respect and care, keeping in mind that if you choose to drink alcohol, do so using these tips:

1

Make sure you eat! And if you are hosting be sure to have food available for guests or ask them to bring their own to ensure safety.

2

Drink plenty of water and have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages on hand for yourself and friends.

3

If you leave home, plan for a safe ride back—and remember to follow guidelines in your area regarding social distancing and mask-wearing.

4

Don’t overdo it! If it’s been a while since you have been out and about, remember your limits, and look out for members of your group too. Our Virtual Bar can help.

5

If you’re able to support local restaurants and choose to buy cocktails-to-go, remember to enjoy them at home and never drive impaired.

6

Have a conversation with your kids about being a responsible citizen and model this behavior. This includes not only drinking responsibly, but also following the rules in place, discussing the meaning of Independence Day, and taking steps to change the world for the better.

Happy Independence Day from your friends at Responsibility.org.
