In just seven weeks, California voters will decide whether to pass Proposition 50, also known as the “Election Rigging Response Act,” to allow the legislature to redraw the state’s congressional districts ahead of the midterm election next year. The outcome of the vote on this measure could help determine which party controls the U.S. House after the 2026 midterms—making voter turnout all the more important.
That’s why today, Vote Forward is announcing a new opportunity to help turn out Californians in this year’s election with a letter writing campaign to reach as many likely Democratic voters as possible.
Our mail window to send letters is from now until October 28th—and our goal is to reach 1 million California voters. It’s a big goal, and with only a few weeks to get it done, we’re going to need help from as many of us as possible to reach it.
This campaign is not only a critical action you can participate in to protect democracy now, but it’s part of a larger goal to sharpen our testing agenda and drive innovation for the entire pro-democracy ecosystem heading into the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election.
And all of us, working together, are central to that process.
Since 2017, you and thousands of Vote Forward volunteers have written more than 40 million letters and proven through dozens of randomized control trials that letter writing is particularly effective at boosting turnout in off-year elections like this one.
