   John,
We’re going to be fully transparent here. In the last few weeks, we’ve had
to spend nearly $400,000 fighting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s
   abuse of office in court:

   all-republican appeals court
On Friday, the Abbott-appointed court unanimously ruled against Paxton and
immediately removed his restraining order from our work.
In their ruling, the court said Beto and Powered by People “assert that
the trial court’s modified Temporary Restraining Order violates their
rights to free speech under the Texas Constitution and the United States
Constitution and must be vacated for that reason. We agree.”
This is a huge victory — but it came at an enormous cost. Spending
$400,000 just to defend our basic right to free speech was never something
we anticipated. And now, those legal bills are threatening our ability to
   keep going at full strength.

fees and get our fundraising and organizing back on track. Spending
$400,000 to fight Ken Paxton in court was a huge unexpected cost for us.

Every single donation will make a difference, and we’re so grateful for
   anything you’re able to give.
   Thank you so much,
