John,

It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. I need to tell you about the legal fight I'm waging against Saudi Arabia's abuse of Arizona's water.

A Saudi-backed company called Fondomonte is pumping enough groundwater to serve 93,000 single-family homes – not to help Arizona families, but to grow alfalfa they ship back to Saudi Arabia to feed their cattle.

They're literally draining our aquifers to grow crops for another country.

The results are devastating. Wells near their operation have gone dry. The land is sinking — with nearly 10 inches of subsidence documented around their farms. A church well 1.8 miles away went completely dry.

This is what happens when foreign corporations treat Arizona like their personal water source.

Saudi Arabia banned growing "green fodder" in their own country in 2018 because they know it uses too much water. So Fondomonte allows them to pillage our supplies instead.

I sued them, calling their operation a "public nuisance" that's harming Arizona communities. And you know what happened? Some Arizona farmers and cities tried to join the lawsuit — on Fondomonte's side.

They'd rather protect corporate interests than Arizona's water.

They're arguing that my lawsuit threatens "decades of settled water law." But here's the truth: our water laws are broken. The Republican Legislature has failed for years to protect rural groundwater, leaving foreign corporations free to drain our aquifers.

I'm not going to stand by and watch corrupt interests steal Arizona's most precious resource.

This isn't just about Fondomonte. I've already identified my next target: Riverview Dairy in Cochise County, where "the evidence of damage is just as strong, if not potentially stronger."

But these fights take resources, and my opponents want an Attorney General who won't sue foreign corporations. They want someone who will let Saudi companies drain our water while Arizona families worry about their wells going dry.

The judge will soon rule on whether farmers can join this lawsuit against me. Whatever happens, I'm going to keep fighting for Arizona's water.

More to come soon,

Kris
