John, Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show was just yanked off the air for doing what he’s always done: making us laugh while speaking truth to power.

Jane Fonda on the Jimmy Kimmel Talk Show

The decision came just hours after Donald Trump’s FCC chair, Brendan Carr, pressured ABC into pulling Jimmy’s show indefinitely. When a national broadcaster like ABC and Nexstar – the giant media company that controls ABC’s affiliates – silences a mainstream comedian, whether we agree with them or not, it shows just how fragile free expression has become.

It sends a chilling message to journalists who question those in power, to activists demanding justice, climate scientists advancing real solutions, and to anyone who dares to speak up. The climate crisis is a huge and growing threat. We can’t confront it without a democracy that protects free speech, fair elections, and the rule of law.

Freedom of speech and expression is one of the most sacred components of our democracy. Comedians, actors, and artists like Jimmy use it not only to entertain, but to hold the powerful accountable. Jimmy has never shied away from criticizing Trump. In fact, he’s been one of Trump’s loudest and most consistent critics.

Jane has been on Jimmy's show herself, and she knows firsthand the way he infuses humor into politics and challenges us to think more critically about our leaders. That’s what a free press and free expression are meant to do. And that’s exactly why Trump is trying to silence him.

When presidents start censoring the media and repressing critics, that’s how authoritarians consolidate power.

We're all deeply worried about our future. But we also know that hope is a muscle — it gets stronger when we act. So today, we're asking you to flex your muscles a bit and take a small but significant action with us: Demand that Nexstar and ABC stand up to Trump’s FCC and their attempts to squash our First Amendment rights.

We need hundreds of thousands of us to raise our voices right now to show Trump, and anyone else who thinks they can bully and silence critics, that we will not stand by while they chip away at our freedoms.

In solidarity,

Jane Fonda Climate PAC
