New York officials arrested for demanding access to alleged ICE detention facility
At least 11 Democratic city and state New York lawmakers, along with City Comptroller Brad Lander, were arrested Thursday after demanding access to an alleged ICE detention facility.
The officials were gathered with immigrant rights organizers to spotlight ICE’s operations in the federal building, where detainees have reported being held in unsafe and degrading conditions.
It’s the second time Lander’s been detained by ICE: In June, he was briefly detained by federal agents after linking arms with a man facing immigration proceedings and demanding to see a judicial warrant before officers could take the man away.
