Throughout his years of service, CC brought wisdom, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to affordable housing and AHC residents. His leadership and advocacy helped shape our mission and impact countless lives. We are grateful for CC’s legacy and extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. REAL ESTATE RECAP AHC Consolidates Property Management to Two Strategic Partners AHC is streamlining operations by transitioning from four property management companies to two carefully selected partners — CAPREIT and Kettler — who will oversee operations at 45 affordable housing communities. Read Full Story AHC Welcomes JC Calder as New Chief Operations Officer AHC has named JC Calder as Chief Operations Officer, where he will oversee asset management, real estate development, and construction management across our portfolio. JC brings over 24 years of experience in real estate development, construction, and operations to AHC. "JC's appointment strengthens our leadership team at a critical time for affordable housing development," Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO, said. "His extensive experience and proven ability to navigate complex projects align with AHC's mission to create sustainable, quality, affordable housing that transforms communities." Developed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and Montgomery County Government, Allium Place represents a pioneering model that combines affordable rental housing and homeownership opportunities within one community. This collaborative effort demonstrates what’s possible when innovative financing, strong public-private partnerships, and a shared commitment to housing affordability come together. Award-Winning Architecture We’re proud to share that our design partner, Cunningham | Quill Architects, has been honored with Washingtonian’s 2025 Residential Design Award in the Affordability Reimagined category for their work on The Terraces at Arlington View East, an AHC community in Arlington. This project reflects our commitment to empowering residents through well-designed, affordable homes created in collaboration with valued partners. Congratulations, Cunningham | Quill!   NEWS NUGGETS Going Green With Reusable Grocery Bags Residents at our weekly food distributions received reusable, insulated grocery bags thanks to a $1,000 Green Grant from Keep Virginia Beautiful. This is an important step toward reducing waste and promoting sustainable habits in our communities. The high-quality bags replace single-use plastic and paper bags, helping families transport fresh groceries and demonstrating AHC's commitment to environmental stewardship.   Summer Camp Recap As the school year kicks off, we’re looking back at the unforgettable moments from AHC Summer Camp — our biggest camp ever with 275 youth from elementary to high school! From building literacy and math skills to making new friends and going on exciting field trips, our campers had a summer full of growth, learning, and fun. Thank you to our incredible partners, volunteers, and staff for helping make this summer memorable for our young residents. Watch Video   Back-to-School Success Thanks to our generous supporters and a $15,000 matching challenge from longtime AHC champions John Andelin and Ginger Geoffrey, kids across AHC communities started the school year with the tools they need to succeed. Through this year's Gear Up! Back-to-School Drive, we distributed nearly 2,000 backpacks filled with supplies to young residents throughout our communities. Watch Video   Corporate Recognition at AHC's Annual Celebration On October 9, AHC will host its Annual Celebration, where donors, corporate partners, foundations, and supporters of AHC’s mission come together to celebrate how their dedication makes it possible to connect more families to Resident Services.
