CLASP Responds to Poverty Data and Court Rulings on Immigrants
The past two weeks have included several high-profile court rulings and the release of the U.S. Census Bureau’s poverty, income, and health insurance coverage data for 2024. CLASP responded to all of them:
* Census Bureau Data Underscores Gender, Racial Disparities; Policy Decisions in 2025 Will Worsen Conditions for All [[link removed]]
CLASP’s release on the U.S. Census Bureau’s national Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance data for 2024 focused on the increased poverty rate among Black Americans and the widening gender pay gap.
* Supreme Court Order Will Embolden Racial Profiling and Targeting of Immigrants [[link removed]]
CLASP’s statement on the Supreme Court’s order to allow federal agents to detain individuals based on their appearance, language, employment, or location highlighted how this decision negates the idea of “innocent until proven guilty” and harms immigrants communities and communities of color.
* Court Rulings Maintain Access to Critical Programs for Immigrant Families [[link removed]]
CLASP responded to rulings on two court challenges about immigrant families’ access to Head Start and other essential programs. Our release celebrated that both rulings ensured continued access but also warned that the Trump Administration’s desire to restrict access could cause great harm to the well-being of children and families.
