This is very simple. For months, Donald Trump had been calling for critical voices like Jimmy Kimmel to be shut down. Then yesterday, the FCC – with Trump's full support and backing – threatened ABC with extreme consequences if it did not shut down Kimmel, simply for speech critical of Trump.

This is state censorship, John. We do not want to live in a country where comedians cannot criticize the government without losing their jobs.

And this is only one part of Trump’s attacks on our right to free speech. In just the first few months of his presidency he has:

* DEMANDED that Stephen Colbert be off the air and got his wish when CBS canceled Colbert’s show.

* Launched baseless lawsuits against the New York Times , the Wall Street Journal , CBS and ABC for journalism he did not like.

* Ordered legal immigrants to be detained and deported merely for speech he did not like.
