John, our First Amendment rights are under attack.

ABC just suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the Trump administration’s demand.

Various ABC-affiliated stations dropped the show, and the FCC chair threatened regulatory consequences for ABC for refusing to penalize speech he didn’t like.

This is not just about one show. CBS canceled The Late Show after Stephen Colbert called out their $16 million settlement with Trump, and Trump has sued several other media organizations for criticizing him.

It sets a dangerous precedent when media companies are pressured into silencing critical voices. When the president decides what is and is not permissible speech, our democracy gets weaker.

As a U.S. Senator, I am standing with every American who believes in free speech, dissent and accountability. The Trump administration’s war on the First Amendment is an attack on the foundation of our democracy.
