Breaking news, John:
Yesterday, a Louisiana immigration judge ordered Palestinian activist and legal permanent U.S. resident Mahmoud Khalil to be deported to Syria or Algeria.
This comes after Mahmoud was abducted by ICE and detained for months, forcing him to miss the birth of his firstborn child, all because of his pro-Palestinian and anti-war protests on Columbia University’s campus.
Though Mahmoud didn’t commit a crime, the Louisiana judge is trying to deport him and separate him from his family for allegedly filling out his green card application incorrectly.
Thankfully, there is another court order protecting Mahmoud from deportation while his legal case continues — but this is a disturbing development and a sign that this authoritarian administration isn’t letting up.
Trump’s regime is weaponizing the courts and relentlessly trying to make an example out of Mahmoud and others in its crackdown on not just pro-Palestinian speech and activity, but on seemingly any political dissent.
