Friend, I was stunned and pained when I saw this headline:

[link removed]? [[link removed]?]The Trump administration just cancelled the proposed Department of Transportation rule that requires airlines to compensate consumers for flight cancellations and disruptions that harm consumers.

For years, I have fought for consumers to be compensated by the airlines for their mistreatment. That progress is now being rolled back by the Trump administration, another blow to people being treated fairly.

Coloradans often call our office to complain about airlines and being mistreated. During the pandemic, for example, we got more complaints about Frontier Airlines’ mistreatment of consumers than any other company. That’s because their cancellation of flights and their refusal to give consumers refunds or usable credits cost consumers millions and millions of dollars and countless hours.

After companies like Frontier Airlines left consumers high and dry, we got to work during the pandemic to demand accountability. In 2022, I led a bipartisan group of State Attorneys General in calling on the federal government to strengthen consumer protections for airline passengers and to guarantee relief to Americans whose flights are unexpectedly canceled or significantly delayed.

And former Secretary Buttigieg, the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary, crafted and worked to implement that rule — until Donald Trump stopped it.

Unlike what we see from Washington D.C. these days, I’ll always fight to hold irresponsible actors accountable when they take advantage of consumers.
