For too long, members of Congress from both parties have been allowed to buy and sell stocks while writing our nation’s laws. Even when there’s no evidence of wrongdoing, the public perception is clear: politicians may be enriching themselves instead of serving the people they represent.
That perception is corrosive. It feeds cynicism at a time when faith in our democratic institutions is already fragile.
