Corporate America has once again capitulated to the increasingly fascistic Trump regime in a blood-chilling setback for free speech, indefinitely suspending Jimmy Kimmel's nightly talk show on threadbare grounds. ABC and parent company Disney justified the move by claiming the late-night host's comments in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination — which were a) not actually about Charlie Kirk and b) quite tame and innocuous — were unforgivably offensive. But the move to cancel Kimmel, a long-time Trump critic, has clearly been in the works for some time. The MAGA cult leader has been kicking and screaming for years for the comedian to be canned, and his administration seized on Kirk's death to finally force network executives' hands. FCC Chair Brendan Carr essentially issued a "nice broadcasting license ya got there... be a shame if something happened to it" threat and Disney promptly caved. We call it fascism because it is fascism.

A Lousiana immigration judge ordered the deportation of Columbia University student and Palestinian rights activist Mahmoud Khalil — to Algeria or Syria — on flimsy allegations of alleged "misreprentations" on immigration forms. "It is no surprise that the Trump administration continues to retaliate against me for my exercise of free speech. Their latest attempt, through a kangaroo immigration court, exposes their true colors once again. When their first effort to deport me was set to fail, they resorted to fabricating baseless and ridiculous allegations in a bid to silence me for speaking out and standing firmly with Palestine, demanding an end to the ongoing genocide. Such fascist tactics will never deter me from continuing to advocate for my people’s liberation," said Khalil in a statement.

Four House Republicans get dragged by MAGA conservatives after voting against a measure to censure Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar
The increasingly unhinged and bigoted Rep. Nancy Mace filed a measure to censure Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar and strip her committee assignments, ostensibly over comments she made about Charlie Kirk's killing on a podcast. Of course the motion doesn't actually quote anything that Congresswoman Ilhan actually said. Instead, Mace just largely quotes a video that was allegedly reposted from Ilhan’s Twitter account. "Fun fact: Nancy Mace is trying to censure me over comments I never said. Her res does not contain a single quote from me because she couldn't find any. Unlike her, I have routinely condemned political violence, no matter the political ideology. This is all an attempt to push a false story so she can fundraise and boost her run for Governor," Omar tweeted. Surprisingly, four Republicans decided not to go along with Mace and are now getting outrageous pushback from MAGA zealots on social media. "Mike Flood, Jeff Hurd, Tom McClintock, and Cory Mills just sided with Democrats to protect Ilhan Omar," Mace complained. "They voted to shield a woman who mocked the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk… A woman who belittled his grieving family…" Omar did no such thing, but as the recent Cracker Barrel incident showed, the MAGA movement is incapable of reacting to anything without bloodcurdling hysteria and hyperbole that is completely divorced from the truth.

Attorney General Pam Bondi faces backlash from the right over "hate speech" crackdown
In her rush to appear sufficiently outraged at Charlie Kirk's murder, Attorney General Pam Bondi kicked a giant hornet's nest, setting insufferable, right-wing provocateurs angrily abuzz. During a softball podcast interview on Monday, Bondi naively vowed to crack down on vaguely defined "hate speech," putting her squarely at odds with, well, the US Constitution AND Charlie Kirk’s own legacy, drawing swift condemnation from...radical-right pundits who definitely don't want to stop spewing their divisive — and lawfully protected — bullshit for a living. Tucker Carlson said, "Any attempt to impose hate speech laws in this country ... is a denial of the humanity of American citizens and cannot be allowed under any circumstances." Far-right commentator Erick Erickson called Bondi a "moron" and said her comments do not reflect the law. Bondi quickly backtracked and attempted to clarify her position, stating the obvious: "Hate speech that crosses the line into threats of violence is NOT protected by the First Amendment," but the damage to her already battered reputation had already been done. Look, Pam Bondi is quite clearly in way over her head at the Justice Department, but lucky for her she does possess the one trait required to hang on to her job: servile loyalty to Donald Trump above all else, including, quite obviously, the law.

Conservative TV station operator Sinclair calls for more action on Kimmel
Sinclair, the second-largest television station operator in the country, called on the FCC and ABC to do more in response to late night host Jimmy Kimmel's comments in the wake of Charlie Kirk's murder. Sinclair, a conservative super-conglomerate that has relentlessly peddled MAGA-friendly drivel over the past decade, called on Kimmel to issue a direct apology to Kirk's family AND make a donation to Kirk's radical, right-wing organization, Turning Point USA, as some sort of act of contrition. The conservative TV juggernaut also said its ABC stations would air a special about Kirk's life this Friday during Kimmel's normal time slot. Fun fact: Sinclair has spent decades gobbling up local TV stations across the country, gradually thinning out their local news coverage, and forcing them to comply with the parent company's centralized, right-wing agenda. They now regularly deliver conservative, pre-packaged news segments to hundreds of local stations, positioning themselves as an unofficial mouthpiece of the Republican Party. Executive David Smith literally once told Trump: "We are here to deliver your message." It's not quite state television, but it ain't far off.
