This summer, lawmakers introduced the so-called “Modern Worker Empowerment Act” in Congress. The name is a lie. DoorDash is one of the biggest corporations lobbying for this bill. It’s designed to “empower” corporations like DoorDash by letting them reclassify workers as independent contractors — robbing us of our rights.
This is union-busting dressed up as reform. And it’s a direct attack on every worker who has ever fought for fair pay and a voice on the job.
But here’s the good news: workers are fighting back — and winning. In Massachusetts, rideshare drivers like me secured the right to unionize. In California, a new law is bringing gig workers closer than ever to building real power on the job. If corporations come for one of us, they’ll face us all. THAT’S worker solidarity.
