Every conversation about Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones makes a difference! We’re excited to be joined by Mayor Aftab Pureval. Mayor Aftab serves as the 70th Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio and is the son of immigrants from India and Tibet. He is making history as Cincinnati's first Asian American Mayor! VOTER PROTECTION TRAINING

  • Poll Observer Training (DPVA Coordinated Campaign) - Various dates through Thurs., Oct. 30 @ 7 PM; Zoom. The Democratic Party of Virginia Coordinated Campaign’s Voter Protection team is working to ensure that every voter has access to the polls and that every vote is counted. To accomplish this, we need your help! Please join us for one of our trainings to be a poll observer for Early Vote and Election Day. Poll observers are our eyes and ears on the ground at polling places across the state on Election Day. They identify potential issues at the polls and work us and election officials to protect voters. We will train, assign, and support you to make sure that you are as prepared and effective as possible on your Election Day or Early Vote shift. You must attend at least one training to be a poll observer. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

    • On-Demand Poll Observer Training (DPVA Coordinated Campaign) - Participants may choose their own date and time; Zoom. Training is the same as above, but self-guided.

  • Protect the Vote: Quick Training for ALL Volunteers (FCDC Election Law & Voter Protection) - Weekly starting Oct. 6 @ 7 PM; Zoom. This training is for all FCDC volunteers with a special focus on helping poll greeters and precinct captains protect voting rights! Training will cover voting access issues that often come up outside of polling locations, including disability access, long lines, and political demonstrations. We will also discuss voting rights and how to handle common voting problems, possible solutions, and how you can ensure that every voter can cast a ballot and have it counted! The training will last 30 minutes; however, optional time for questions may go beyond half an hour. All training sessions are identical; choose the date that works best for you!

BRADDOCK DISTRICT SUPERVISOR NOMINATION CONTEST

It is likely that the Chief Judge of the Fairfax Circuit Court will soon issue a Writ for Special Election to fill the vacancy created by the election of James Walkinshaw to Congress. The date of the special election could be as early as December 9 with 45 days of early voting starting Friday, October 24 (early voting date and duration subject to change). It is the responsibility of FCDC to create a fair method in which voters may choose the Democratic nominee. Towards that end, FCDC is planning a firehouse primary for Saturday, October 4; details to follow sometime in the next few days.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Editor's Note: Canvasses, fundraisers, meet & greets, etc., associated with the probable Braddock District Supervisor nomination contest are organized in the FCDC calendar under this tag: #BraddockFirehousePrimary. FCDC does not endorse during primary campaigns or nomination contests. Any Democratic candidate or candidate’s committee may add their Fairfax County events to the FCDC website calendar.

  • Friday Power Lunch: Protect the Vote - Why Your Vote Matters More Than Ever- Fri., Sept. 19 @ 12 PM; Zoom. This week’s program will focus on voter protection and the fight to ensure that every vote is counted in Virginia. Senator Louise Lucas will speak about fighting for every vote and what that looks like in practice, and whether Virginia is truly prepared to meet the challenge. We’ll also hear from Nick Cosmos, the new head of voter protection for the Democratic Party of Virginia. Nick brings experience from New Hampshire and now leads the program from Richmond for this pivotal election.
