Dear Green American,

Thanks to the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, families across the U.S. have been able to save thousands of dollars on clean energy and energy efficiency updates for their homes. But the window is closing fast.

Residential solar systems must be installed and likely in service by December 31, 2025 in order to qualify for the up to 30% federal tax credit. That’s a huge savings—on average, about $6,000 off installation. Without it, homeowners will pay thousands more and face a longer payback period on their investment.

Installing solar still makes sense:

  • Save money on your electric bills (often paying back the cost within 7–10 years).

  • Increase your home’s value.

  • Cut carbon emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

But beware: as deadlines approach, scams and predatory lenders are on the rise. Take time to choose a reputable installer, compare financing options, and confirm every detail before you sign.

💡 Even if rooftop solar isn’t an option, you can still benefit by joining a community solar project or making your home more efficient with insulation, draft fixes, and efficient appliances—all of which may qualify for tax credits that also expire at the end of this year.

⚡ And if you’re planning to purchase an electric vehicle or charging station, you must make your purchase by September 30, 2025 to receive the federal tax credit.

The clock is ticking. Don’t leave money on the table—or delay the clean energy transition we urgently need.
