As we live in an increasingly digital world, it’s more important than ever to understand how online experiences shape mental health.

Our latest research brief, Online Experiences and Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, explores this complex relationship. This research dives into why LGBTQ+ young people go online, where they go, and how these digital spaces can impact mental health and suicide risk.

In short, when LGBTQ+ youth had access to online spaces where they felt safe and understood, they reported better mental health and lower suicide risk compared to those who did not.

Additionally, LGBTQ+ young people who reported higher rates of past-year suicide consideration and attempts were more likely to say they go online to connect with others because they face challenges finding meaningful connections in their daily lives.
