Recently, Trump made it clear that he wanted Republicans across the nation to work to deliver him more seats in the US House of Representatives. It didn’t take long for them to get to work.
FIRST: The Texas GOP worked overtime to deliver him a fresh new map, giving the party five more seats.
THEN: The Missouri House passed a map that erases a Democratic seat.
NOW: The redistricting process is underway in Ohio, and Trump and his cronies will surely work to chip away at our Democratic seats.
We want to make one thing clear: representatives should be chosen by the People, not hand-picked by lawmakers seeking more power for themselves. Once again, Trump wants to change the rules of the game to install more MAGA politicians in the House. We must fight back.
Democrats in Ohio’s legislature are trying to overcome these attacks by introducing their own map, showing that fair, representative districts are possible. However, Republicans in the state are making it clear their plan will be gerrymandered to maximize Republican seats. As Ohio Republican Party leader Tony Schroeder put it, to the GOP passing fair maps is “as much a fantasy as the Wizard of Oz.”
That’s why we’re reaching out today, John. The new maps demanded by Trump will make it more difficult for Democrats to regain control of the House. It’s critical that we support Democrats nationwide, and we cannot do it alone.
