After years of hate and lies flowing unchecked on Facebook, we’re hitting Mark Zuckerberg in the one place he cares about — his ad revenue. And with 99% of Facebook’s profits coming from ads, you better believe he is feeling the sting.

The #StopHateForProfit Facebook advertising boycott officially begins today and together with our coalition partners, we’ve already mobilized more than 500 companies like Verizon, Coca-Cola, Ford, Starbucks and Target to pull ad spending from Facebook.

Check out the list of ways you can get involved below.

This is truly a historic moment in the fight against online hate, and we never could have gotten here without the actions and support of people like you.

Free Press has been calling on Facebook to ban white supremacists and stop hateful activities on its platform for years. We’ve even given the company a roadmap for how to do it — in 2018, we co-founded the Change the Terms coalition and released a set of model policies for tech companies to adopt to stop the proliferation of hate on their platforms. And what we have achieved together is amazing.

Just this week, one week after a meeting with Free Press and our Change the Terms coalition partners, Reddit banned “r/The_Donald” and other hateful subreddits. The company also announced a strong new set of rules — all of which come directly from Change the Terms’ model policies — to fight the harassment of people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ people, religious minorities and other marginalized communities.[1]

YouTube also banned notorious white supremacists like David Duke and Richard Spencer.[2] Free Press and our allies in the Change the Terms coalition have been calling for other platforms — most notably Twitter — to take this same action for almost a year.[3]

This campaign has provided the political space for Amazon-owned streaming service Twitch to temporarily suspend Donald Trump’s account for “hateful conduct”.[4]

But we can’t stop here. Will you join us in helping to grow the boycott today? Here are a few actions you can take:

* If you haven’t already, sign our petition to demand that advertisers join the #StopHateForProfit Facebook ad boycott now. The public pressure is working and Facebook stands to lose millions in the month of July alone.

I said it already, but this bears repeating: This boycott, and everything else that Free Press does, is possible only because of supporters like you.

Thank you for helping us get to this moment — and for continuing to stand with Free Press and demand an end to white supremacy on social media once and for all.

In solidarity,

Jessica J. González
