I want to give you an update on what happened at last night’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
As you know, I put forward a motion to rename a street in Hernando in honor of Charlie Kirk, a true patriot who inspired countless young people across our county, including Hernando, to stand firm in their faith and conservative values.
But here’s what happened: not one other board member would support my motion. Therefore letting it die a slow death. And not a single reason was given for their silence. Surprisingly, I was the only Republican member, out of 6, who stood for Charlie.
That needs to change.
Instead of support, we saw efforts to kill the idea outright by Aldermen Robinson and Miller who made a motion and seconded it to try and dismiss it completely.
Aldermen Wicker and Piper tried to table it and kick the can down the road, but that failed, too.
Every one of those attempts failed, but so did the motion itself; because without a second, it could not move forward.
The room was packed with Democrats and Radical “No Kings” organizers who came to make sure nothing in DeSoto County would ever bear Charlie Kirk’s name. The Democrats got the outcome they wanted, but let’s be clear: I will not back down from fighting for what I believe is right.
The Board also voted to approve the final plat for new apartments in Hernando, except me. I abstained. I ran on opposing apartments in Hernando and I could not vote for that.
