President Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., without the city’s consent is unlawful, unconstitutional, and a dangerous transgression.

I’m co-leading a coalition of 22 attorneys general to back D.C.’s lawsuit challenging this overreach. We’re asking the courts to make it clear: the President cannot misuse the military and civilian authority must remain in charge of our cities.

The National Guard is trained for emergencies and disasters, not routine policing. Using soldiers as law enforcement undermines our Constitution, our values, and the very balance between civilian and military authority.
