Make no mistake about it: This is an extraordinary moment for our city – a chance to show the world who we are, and to come together as one community to welcome the athletes, families, and visitors from across the globe.
As your Mayor, I am working every day to prepare our city for these major global events. Over the past months, our city has shown the nation and the world that we are resilient and we are united. Homelessness is down, crime is down and we are leading the fastest disaster recovery effort in state history.
Young Angelenos today are already benefitting from the games through PlayLA – a program that offers youth and adaptive sports at a low cost for kids across L.A. To ensure that our small businesses benefit from the Games, we’ve launched ‘ProcureLA’ to create a pipeline of businesses that are ready and equipped to win contracting opportunities ahead of major events. We will continue this moment.
Los Angeles will shine when the torch is lit — and part of how we are ensuring that reality is by making sure that these upcoming Games will benefit every neighborhood in Los Angeles. Every community that makes Los Angeles the best city in the world will be on full display and will benefit from the special occasion that are the Games.
But this work also cannot happen without you – Angelenos from across the City have come together to show the world the beauty of our City. That’s why we’ve launched Shine LA, a citywide initiative to beautify our neighborhoods, strengthen community pride, and get Los Angeles ready for its global spotlight. Shine LA events – from tree planting to neighborhood clean-ups – are happening in the lead-up to major events coming our city’s way and we want you to be part of it.

Together, we can all make sure that Los Angeles doesn’t just host the Games, but that we do so in a way that reflects the very best of our city: our diversity, our resilience, and our unity.
Let’s get ready, Los Angeles – together.
With pride,
Mayor Karen Bass
