The Backer Tracker
Dear friends and neighbors,
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is finding a steady rhythm as the school year begins again. With the start of a new season, I also want to take a moment to reflect on some of the difficult events that have unfolded recently.
The tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk was not only heartbreaking, but also a sobering reminder of the deep divisions facing our country. Charlie was engaging in political conversations, exercising his First Amendment right to free speech, when his life was unjustly taken. No one should ever fear for their safety simply for speaking their mind, sharing their beliefs, or engaging in dialogue.
Our nation was founded on the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. These are not just constitutional rights; they are the very foundation of what makes America unique. We must not allow violence or intimidation to erode those freedoms or silence the voices of people who may think differently than we do.
My heart and prayers go out especially to the families and community of Annunciation Catholic Church and School, who are grieving this unimaginable loss. Their community represents another cornerstone of our nation’s values: the right to freely live out one’s faith. We must protect and cherish that freedom, ensuring that houses of worship and schools remain safe places where families can come together without fear. In times like these, it is more important than ever that we stand together, support one another, and recommit ourselves to building a society where differences can be discussed respectfully and peacefully...without violence.

This summer I’ve been busy, not just personally, but also helping constituents across the district especially with agriculture-related issues. I like to joke that when Democrats are in charge in St. Paul, “snirt” happens, and it’s our job as Republicans to stop it.
But on a serious note, if state government is giving you trouble and you need help, that’s exactly what my office is here for. My staff may be small, but we work hard to serve you and do our best to stop the “snirt” in St. Paul.

As harvest season begins, I want to give a big shoutout to our ag producers. We’re blessed with some of the richest soils in the world, and agriculture makes up nearly 20% of Minnesota’s economy, feeding not just our state but the country and even the world. With harvest underway, you’ll see more farm equipment on the roads, so please be patient and drive carefully. And with school back in session, remember to take extra care around school buses in the mornings and afternoons!

Parades
b
This summer, the Backer backers participated in 16 parades! We had a wonderful time creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. Paradegoers loved the bubbles, high throttle music, stickers, and the kids had a blast receiving high-fives. Bill Nichel, the official driver of the Backer Bubble Buggy, would always add to the fun. The abundance of bubbles greatly enhanced the thrill for the children. Parades are a fantastic way to connect with the wonderful folks of District 9A.

Out and About
b
I recently attended the Big Iron Show in West Fargo, where I represented SnirtStopper. It was exciting to meet with constituents from all parts of District 9A who stopped by to chat. Connecting with them and learning about the issues that matter as we approach the upcoming year was fun.
b
Spent time at the South Dakota State Fair and enjoyed seeing a few constituents during the event during Labor Day weekend.
b
During the Traverse County Fair, I represented Browns Valley Hardware Hank, SnirtStopper, and served as a Minnesota State Representative, wearing multiple hats that weekend. I had several conversations about agriculture, education, school safety, homeschooling, property taxes, and more.
