Heather Honey, a conspiracy theorist who built her career spreading lies about the 2020 election, has been handed a powerful new role in Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security. From her position overseeing “election integrity,” she will now have access to sensitive intelligence and the power to influence how our elections are secured.

Honey promoted false claims that Pennsylvania counted more votes than there were voters, helped legitimize the sham Arizona “audit” run by Cyber Ninjas, and pressured states to withdraw from critical voter-roll security programs. Now she’s been rewarded with a position designed to undermine public trust and open the door to interference in 2026.

This is part of a coordinated strategy. Trump’s administration is embedding election deniers into key posts while dismantling safeguards against foreign interference and disinformation.

DFA has been fighting for democracy for decades. We know the stakes. Allowing individuals like Heather Honey to weaponize our election systems will destabilize our institutions and hand Trump’s MAGA loyalists the tools they need to rig outcomes.

Heather Honey and other 2020 deniers must be stopped from undermining democracy. Tell Congress to block her appointment and provide full funding for election protection.

Blocking these dangerous appointments is not enough. Congress must also restore the resources DHS and the FBI need to defend against foreign interference, disinformation campaigns, and partisan sabotage.  

Protecting elections requires more, not less, transparency, accountability, and investment in security. If we fail to act now, Trump’s operatives will continue filling agencies with conspiracy theorists until our democracy becomes unrecognizable. We cannot wait for the damage to be done.
