John,
One of the far right’s most extreme influencers, so-called Libs of TikTok, just went after me on social media for doing what I’ve always done: telling the truth and giving people the tools to peacefully resist Donald Trump’s authoritarian agenda.
At a recent Resistance Lab training, I laid out the facts: Trump is taking concrete steps to eliminate opposition, silence dissent, and remake the state in his image.
These are textbook authoritarian tactics. And they’re happening right now.
Libs of TikTok saw the progress we’re making and wants to intimidate us out of organizing for our rights and freedoms.
The reality is the Resistance Lab has always focused on the importance of nonviolent resistance. But the irony isn’t lost on me — Libs of TikTok is outraged because I called out far-right efforts to silence dissent, and now they’re literally trying to stop us from speaking out in defense of our democracy.
This is exactly why we launched the Resistance Labs in the first place: To train people in non-violent resistance, based on decades of research on the rise of authoritarianism, and how people-powered movements have successfully stopped it before.
Thousands of people from every state have already attended a training, so it’s no wonder the far-right is upset. They know that the more informed and organized we are, the harder it is for them to get away with their extreme power grabs.
So what do they do? They distract. They point fingers. And they try to bait us into a petty fight.
That’s not going to work on us. We’re not falling into their trap — we’re doubling down to expand our movement, reach more people, and continue standing up in nonviolent resistance to defend our democracy.
But I can’t do it without you. Resistance Labs are only possible because of grassroots support, and with our movement under attack, we need to stand firm — now is not the time to stop speaking out.
And if you’d like to attend an upcoming Resistance Lab, you can register here.
Let’s continue to build this movement, defend democracy, and peacefully resist far-right extremism together.
In solidarity,
Pramila Jayapal
