Donald Trump just handed control of U.S. election infrastructure to a known 2020 conspiracy theorist — and Congress is doing nothing to stop it.

Heather Honey, a far-right operative who pushed Trump’s lies about election fraud, has been appointed to a key Department of Homeland Security role overseeing how our elections are secured. She helped push sham audits, spread false claims in court, and even worked to seize voting machines in Pennsylvania. Now she’s in charge of protecting the very elections she tried to undermine.

Election officials across the country are begging for more funding to secure our voting systems — but the opponents of voting rights who control Congress refuse to act. Instead, they’re greenlighting a takeover by people who want to sabotage the next election from inside the system.

We can’t stand by and let that happen. Congress must launch an immediate investigation into Honey’s appointment and pass emergency funding to protect our elections from partisan interference. The longer they stall, the greater the risk of chaos and manipulation in 2026.
