Many of the localities that run our elections lack the money, capacity or expertise to adequately address the challenges election workers face today, from physical and cyber threats to rampant disinformation to frequently changing election laws.
Inadequate election funding isn’t just irresponsible — it’s dangerous.
Polling places may be closed or moved to locations that are harder to reach by public transportation. Voters may face long lines or outdated equipment. These challenges don’t just make voting harder — they threaten the very foundation of our democracy.
URGENT UPDATE: Congress is preparing next year’s budget now — and we must demand robust, bipartisan funding for elections.

Federal funding for elections has dropped in recent years.
We must ensure that every eligible voter — regardless of race, economic status or ZIP code — can cast their ballot safely and without obstruction. Congress has an essential role to play in that effort by adequately funding election administration.
Members of Congress have until Sept. 30 to figure this out. And, as they consider the countless critical programs and services in the federal budget, they need to hear from their constituents — constituents like you — that funding for elections is a priority.
